No, i love volcarona, i'll never say that. Volcarona is a special sweeper, smogonbird is sweeper. you have to choose the one who fit your playstile and your team the most. Volcarona is deadly because of quiver dance, Smog on bird because of its priority. Btw mind that smog on bird is a counter for volcarona

Pretty sure that modest with 252 evs is quite a bit less than no investment x2. Not to mention more speed and even more bulk.

at least it will take a single hit, and only 1 buff can't instakill smogonbird with HP without EV investment. Smogonbird will kill it. Also HP rock imply a little reduction in some IVs too, mind it.

This is the set I run, I don't see the point of running bulky Volcarona anymore because CB talonshit OHKOs it no matter what. One thing this set does really well is it fucks over rotom. Thing is you need to keep rocks off the field to get a chance to set up and not die to hydro pump.

Specs rotom can't even OHKO at this point so next turn you'll outspeed an OHKO with giga drain.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Rotom-W Hydro Pump vs. +2 0 HP / 4 SpD Volcarona: 246-290 (79 - 93.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Specially defensive rotom is also nearly a guaranteed OHKO.

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Volcarona Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Rotom-W: 302-356 (99.3 - 117.1%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

The only thing you need to worry about from rotom is trick but since no one ever seems to do it, I don't worry about it too much.

It's still hardwalled by heatran, and azumarill and talonshit will fuck you up, but it has worked fantastically for me.

Lum is solid too, I just prefer life orb because, as much as I love the fire bug, it isn't going to get a ton of opportunities to switch in and the extra firepower goes a long way.

I agree with this anon.
After a quiver dance you're outspeeding everything bar Ninjask, Deo-Speed and some scarf users, (Scarf rotom is still outsped by 1 point).
You can use Modest Volcarona, you can ever use Adamant Dragonite, who is much slower

I run modest on my volcarona and it kicks ass. You really don't need a timid nature for a pokemon with a stat boosting move like quiver dance. Volcarona's speed will still be high regardless with just one QD.

Besides, what's the point worrying about speed this gen anyway when you got everyone running talonshit in their team, who could easily take you down with one brave bird or acrobatics?
