I'm not sure why people think normal is suddenly the best type. It doesn't really improve much, just becomes a decent coverage type.

The only thing that changes is type effectiveness. Everything else stays the same.
Flying types are immune to spikes, poisons absorb t-spikes, grass are still immune to powder, fire types are immune to burn, etc.

At the same time nothing resists Normal though so it's damn good. Thinking about it, Leafeon could actually be pretty good since Grass and Bug moves are actually pretty great.
