Protip: Turn off the god damn Exp Share. The game is easy enough as it is, you don't need that thing overleveling you, and with the lack of need for HM slaves, you can carry a team of six everywhere you go.

I've used my starter (Delphox) exclusively in 99% of all battles. I just captured Xerneas and Delphox is lvl70. I haven't even been grinding at all.

I just want to beat the shitty story so I can make a good team for competitive, but I can't connect to eshop to patch anyway.

Run the game without ANY exp boosters OP. It's a bit more challenging/fun, while at the same time it doesn't turn into a total grindfest.
