Sableye already had a pretty good hidden ability and a moveset it could abuse. Not the best stats, but its still decent. Mawile really had nothing to work with. It did need a boost, though I would still appreciate a Sableye Mega just for fun in the future

Neither did any of the starters. Or Alakazam. Or even Gardevoir for that matter. And they all got one. Nintendo was mostly aiming megas at popular Pokemon. There really wasn't a prerequisite for getting one.

Sableye didn't really need one because it has a pretty decent niche as a prankster that can will-o-wisp. Shit, it saw a ton of use this gen because it could actually counter M-Khan.

Mawile was just garbage though.

No they aren't. Gengar's counterpart is Golem. Also going by your logic Aggron and T-tar are counterparts when one is a pseudo-legendary and the other one isn't.

Maybe a little bit. Like, a small change to its stats, typing, or move pool to help use what it was given. But I wouldn't say it NEEDED a mega. Honestly it did its job fine, there were just a lot of other Pokemon that did Gardevoirs job better.
