Iirc dugtrio skyrocketed in usage because people figured out arena trap + sash + reversal = remove any weather user from play...I'm not sure what the case is now but all of that shit adds up to make a good pokemon, of course it's not all about raw stats.

There are plenty of less used pokemon that can hang with the big boys easily...it's just that the "big boys" (for lack of a better term) usually have the risk:reward ratio stacked in your favor.....people are going to run whatever gives them the best possible chance at winning.....even if the increase in chance is marginal.
