I keep hearing about a Special/Mixed Aegislash, but I've been wondering what's so great about it compared to SD/Sneak/SacredSword/King's Shield?
I recently got a Jap Quiet Honedge off WT and was wondering what would be optimal for this, seeing how Aegis is consdiered S Rank here.

Attacks from both sides of the spectrum, so it's harder to wall.

Shadow Ball can tossed around without really thinking, because so few good 'mons resist/are immune to Ghost moves now.

And if you get burned, it's not the end of the world, as you can just spam Shadow Ball.

Is this thing still THIS overrated?

It's a B at best. It doesn't hit hard enough, even with STABs, and it can't take a hit to save it's life.

I agree it's WoW bait but if I take care of that, I find it hilarious to get to +4 Atk in one turn and Sweep with Sneak on the SD set.

Most M-Venusars run specially defensive spreads. Those are clean OHKO's.
Using the mega slot for a wall that loses to the most common pokemon in the metagame doesn't seem like a great idea.

Greninja is not a sweeper, hes a scout/revenge killer, you're supposed to use him last to clean up all the mess when the heavy hitters already weakened the enemy team and he's very good at doing it with that speed and power.

Mega Venusaur is fantastic.
Mixed Aegislash is awesome.
Greninja is good but it has trouble with stall. Fantastic cleaner when everything is weakened and priority is gone (unfortunetely the replay doesn't show this).

King's Shield/Shadow Ball/Sacred Sword are mandatory, the last slot should be Toxic, Gyro Ball, Shadow Sneak or Iron Head.
It also gets Pain Split now if I'm not mistaken so you could run that instead.

I think that it's there for support and versatility reasons. Hazard and CB sets (U-turn makes it work, I'm assuming) seem to be worthwhile enough to let the froge hang with the big boys, though it does perfectly fine as a powerful scout/revenge killer.

Talonflame in particular has a higher speed stat and stupid strong SE priority. Plus, Pinsir really only has one set, while Char-X has the option of abusing Special attacks (and can't be burned, either). Mega Venusaur is right where it needs to be, since it makes a fantastic physical or special wall with plenty of recovery and an actual offensive presence to boot. It's in a similar situation as Rotom-W: good bulk with uncommon weaknesses in addition to solid support and offensive options.

I don't get why you guys aren't on the Mega Venusaur train already, pretty much all it needs to fear is Flying and the occasional Psychic attacks and your fine. I send it in on stuff I know will use Fire and Ice and yet it still takes the hits, still with more than half health on a good day. The fact it has Giga Drain, Leech Seed and Synthesis too just means it can stay in for as long as it wants if you have nothing to make it budge.

And as long as you're not switching into a +2 (or Banded for anything under 252/252 Bold) Talonflame, you can just use Sleep Powder to beat it 75% of the time after you survive a Brave Bird.

Talonflame can't ever switch into Mega Pinsir's Return and can only revenge kill it.

As for M-Venusaur, as long as Stealth Rocks are up it can take out Talonflame with Sludge Bomb as it switches in even without SpA investment.

So no, Talonflame doesn't invalidate either of them. It's a check at best.

Talonflame has an enourmous list of counters and exploitable weaknesses that would be taken into account when building a team around Pinsir or Venusaur. Requiring a bit of team support does not make thing bad for OU. Remember that one other mega that needed 0 team support to sweep? It got banned.

You switch M-Venusaur out from my Smogonbird? I say can see that coming from a mile away and switch to my Smogonbird counter-counter.

The thing is, when a pokemon has absolutely no choice but to switch out against an extremely common threat as opposed to a pokemon that actually has a chance to fight back, the second pokemon is more useful.
This is especially true for a pokemon that not only should switch out as little as possible, being a wall, but also takes your mega mon slot.

M-Venusaur is nothing but a "flavor of the month" thing that will die out as soon as slow people realize this simple fact.

Not terribly, actually, thanks to that 122 base Special Attack. And so what if it needs investment? It's basically adding to your bulk anyway.

If you're pairing M-Venusaur with something that takes care of both of its weaknesses at the cost of Synthesis's reliability, don't use Synthesis. This is basic teambuilding. Even then, Sandstorm isn't permanent, so just do something else until it ends.

Talonflame becomes the most common pokemon, so everyone starts running counters until it no longer performs as well and drops in usage.
The next best thing then takes the spotlight and the circle continues.
Notice how M-Venusaur and M-Pinsir are raising in popularity now that Talonflame is dropping, something that was outright unthinkable until a month ago.

In any event, your team has four other Pokemon to choose from at this point. If none of them can put however many turns of sand you have left to good use or otherwise buy you time to clear skies without being a worse option than either keeping T-Tar in or switching directly to Mega Saur, I suspect that using something like Giga Drain (or Sleep Powder) would probably be a better choice. Dealing with Bulky Waters is the scenario that most readily comes to mind here.

Beyond that, I say Rotom-W, Genesect, Gliscor, and Manphy are the best mons you can place on any team and be good. Deoxys S is the best mon right now but you need to build around it to be fully OP.

At least Flareon has Superpower for coverage. Jolteon has very few Special moves outside of its STAB.
It's always been pretty underwhelming in OU, but the general nerf to what few Special attacks it had was just icing.

Jolteon's main selling point in OU was its base 130 speed; literally there is no other reason you'd use it over Raikou.
UU is slower-paced though, so Raikou's overall better stats and movepool matter more than the extra speed.
If you really want a faster electric type there's always Mega Manectric, who is better than either of them. The competition for the mega slot won't be as bad in UU as it is in OU.

All the mega forms that aren't XYzard, Pinsir, Lucario, Venusaur or whose base forms are OU (Garchomp, T-Tar) are going to end up in UU, and a few of them will probably get banned to BL. None are going to RU, they're just too good.

Many people are using M-Blastoise wrong. This thing isn't supposed to play like a Blastoise without Leftovers, it's supposed to punch holes with Mega Launcher-boosted attacks.

Run max HP and special attack and Water Pulse/Dark Pulse/Aura Sphere/Ice Beam and punch holes into the opposing team. It actually works well even in OU.

Mega Gardevoir is in no way BL material. It has the same physical not-bulk as regular Gardevoir, and disappointing Special Attack and Speed for a so-called offensive Mega. It doesn't help that UU is loaded with some really good potential Assault Vest abusers, like Cobalion and Escavalier, who can safely counter a Megavoir 90% of the time. It has notable flaws, requires good team support and great prediction on your part (e.g. Medicham is up against Rotom-W, which it outspeeds and OHKOs with HJK. But opponent has Lando-T, which resists HJK and intimidates but can be OHKOed by Ice Punch. You can predict they'll switch to Lando-T and use Ice Punch, but your opponent can predict that and keep Rotom-W in.) However, it's capable of OHKOing nearly everything, and 2HKOs any walls.

You can't just stick it into a team like you can Pinsir or Lucario. I used it as my mega in a stall team. Four tanks/walls, a bulky cleric, and Medicham. Bring it out once an opportunity appears, OHKO something (if it doesn't resist or isn't a good tank, HJK OHKOs it, period), then switch to a wall before it can be revenge killed. This team got me into the top 100 on Showdown before Pokebank ladder got nuked, with Medicham KOing pretty much everything.

Tl;dr it's not easy to use and it has flaws. I expect it to dominate UU, though (where it has zero counters and only one or two things capable of walling it), unless it gets banned to BL (which it probably will.)

Mega Gardevoir has 165 base Special Attack, actually. I call it disappointing because it's paired with a sub-par Speed stat and an ability that only boosts one of your moves. If Mega Gardevoir could boost its Speed, or if the boosts to its Attack and Special Defense went to its Defense and Speed stats instead, it wouldn't be quite as underwhelming.

Seriously, damn near every offensive Mega gets that kind of power, the question is what can they do with it. Being weak to Ghost types is a huge problem this Generation. Mega Medicham has the strongest unboosted attack in the game at its disposal, and yet is still unable to make a name for itself in OU. Yes, M-Cham is also weak to Talonflame. Banded Burd OHKOes 252/0 M-Gardevoir 90% of the time anyway.

All stall teams should carry M-Venusaur, I truly believe that. He's just so good at walling the meta and disrupting with Sleep Powder and Knock Off, as well as being no slouch offensively.
Heatran is also even better this gen being x4 resistant to fairy and despite losing resistances, still being able to handle Genesect like none other, as well as Talonflame.
Mandibuzz is not vital because Defog is a mixed package, but it works really well.

I liked the idea of megas for the sake of a comeback mechanic. There's usually not much you can do in return when your opponent has a +4 garchomp ready to rape your asshole sideways sweeping you like nobody's business

But from what Megas, I thought were going to be, were going to be a way to circumvent that. Your opponent has a Garchomp, you mega evolve your Manectric and then the tables have turned, you fuck up their garchomp and then now you're the one ready to sweep with your nigga transferred all the way from Gen 3 or whatever the fuck

For the sake of things, I do like what they sort of did with it. The Mega Starters being terrific examples of megas done right. They're as gamefreak intended, basically "evolutions for Pokemon who were thought couldn't evolve any further", and then balancing them into the game despite the power creep, putting Charizard to the likes of Heatran.
But then there was shit like Mega Mawile, which could've just been an evolution.

Run sub instead of synthesis

Synthesis is too unreliable at only 8 PP. If you're using it for stall, you're trying to be out as long as possible. Substitute is a godsend with leech seed. It even protects you on a predicted switch if you think you're about to get countered.

Basically anything else from the rest of your choices (toxic, sludge bomb, sleep powder) will be hard countered by ferrothorn and steel types, namely Ferrothorn. So I'd honestly advise Hidden Power Fire if anything. Hits grass types you can't hit with leech seed, extra damage on flying types, especially ones like Skarmory who would double resist giga drain, even works better if you have sun support.

either way you'd want sub I guess to answer the specific question, but HP fire with sun mention is because your opponent would specifically seek to send out their counter/ferrothorn early on before losing their Pokemon, in which case the sun is still up and ready for you to boost your HP Fire with.

But seriously +3 Surf in Rain can 2KO a standard Blissey.
But it has a bunch of other shit it can do too outside of just that. Like, Xerneas is everywhere. It can steal Geomancy using Heart Swap.

I would replace Goodra for Sylveon or Florges.
Mono-fairy is a better defensive type than mono-dragon, they have Wish and your team can already deal with the poison and steel weaknesses.

You can run him support - set him up with HP and SDef EVs, Calm Nature, Leftovers, and give him stealth rock, defog, scald, and ice beam. He's now one of the best hazard clearers in the game and can set up his own, as well as being tanky and being able to burn.

It has the strongest Hydro Pump in the game when you trigger Torrent, so you want to capitalize on that as much as you can. Rain support will help. Its typing is also very good, giving you many switch-in opportunities.
