New format for competitive battling, it's a gen VI sim being developed with the interest of changing the tier system up. Pokemon are given a point value and in order for your team to be legal it's point total has to be below the allowed amount. It's supposed to "inspire diversity by making it impossible to use many top threat pokemon on a single team". Essentially it will lessen the need to ban things because you can just increase their point totals and make it harder to run them on a team without carrying shitmons. For instance, you can run scizor, but he might take up like 25% of the points you're allowed on your team, so then you can't run mega lucario because that'll only leave you with a small amount of points for the other four pokemon. Also it'll have a seasonal ladder that isn't shit. There's more reasoning for it's creation that you can hear about in the video if you're interested.

I signed up for it, I'm willing to give it a shot. I think it'll be a really nice change of pace from the current tiering system that's been in place with Smogon. Not saying there's anything wrong with that system by any stretch, but having an alternative can never be a bad thing.
Unless it turns out to be shit, then we just keep complaining about [insert mon here] being on every team.

It doesn't need to be. It's 100% obvious what's going to happen. Eventually everyone is going to figure the best way to maximize their points by choosing which Pokemon work best together. Once the best teams are found, that's going to be your entire metagame.

it's not supposed to replace smogon or anything, the creators want it to coexist. it's just meant to form a different meta, with the biggest point being that bans won't be as common now. maybe instead of a suspect test, it'll be like "raise blaziken's point value by 10" or something

I don't get the point of this. It's ultimately going to run into the same problems at Smogon's metagame. People will min-max the best team, and even after you adjust points to nerf it, people will just min-max another team. We're still going to Smogon: The Team, the only differences is that it's Pokebattle: The Team and it changes every few months. Pokemon are still going to be banned too; if you listen to the video it says that cover legendaries will be cost more points than you're allowed to spend on a team, which is a ban by another name.

And then there are numerous application problems like assigning points to over 700+ mons and then determining how these points would be assigned and so on.

If they're that slow and the system isn't being regulated entirely by usage on teams, then sure. It'll be shit. If usage alone dictates changes in points (high usage automatically raises the value, low usage lowers), then the meta will be forced to evolve continuously.

It won't work, because your target audience want to win, not use some shitmons, that's why I quitted competitive play during fifth gen, and watching the rant over OU the team, nothing has changed. Pokemon is a PvE game, with really shitty PvP, it really needs more balance, but that's GF's fault, not ours.

Who are the target audience of this new battling site? Definently not smogon, because they're circlejerking already, with their own rules and whatnot. Ohboy.

It's not those who are new to the series, they propably won't even think about competitive play.

It's those losers with too much hope for competitive pokemon, who are fed up with facing same pokemon over and over and over again, yet not beating those. Sorry, not interested, but I'll be in the background laughing at your failure. This thing lives about 3-4months before it is dead. Basically you're forcing people to use golduck instead of starmie because fuck you we have this complex point system. I think the karenfags here have these tournaments and general wifi battles without your standard smogon sets, what you're going to eliminate.

We did a tournament with some friends some time ago, in the RSE era.
We just made 6 tiers (not counting Ubers), then we just picked 1 mon from each tier and battle with that.
Was fun, but that site claiming GAME CHANGING, SO NEW, SO WOW, is just patetic.
They should've put out something instead of just hosting a shitty email-filler site to gain hype.

How do they even decide what is worth how many points? You think a community full of retards will know how to properly point things? You think a community as horrid as /vp/ can come together to do things like rationally vote on a community poll?

I fail to see how this will "promote" diversity and not just eventually turn into a regular old tiering system.

Smogon is not Perfect, let's say that the current ou the team is 7/10. Add 1point for that smogon fag who can predict and predict predictions, and subtract 2 from smogon kid who is majority and needs to gitgud. Smogon is popular and that's why their sets have spread like cancer. There arr better teams than the current ou the movie team. Maybe not yet maybe there actually is but it is known only by few people.

This is like inventing smogon all over again, with points.

The only improvement I could see to smogon tiers that isn't complicated as fuck and unlikely to work is adding another tier below the current NU for things like corsola.

The difference is that wargames are constructed with systems like this in mind, and you have WAY more flexibility in teambuilding because of it. An army with one superpowerful thing versus 20 shitty things is a pretty even match a lot of the time. But Pokemon doesn't work like that. The superpower will rape the shitty stuff every time.

GF didn't give a fuck about any country that wasn't Japan, so once simulators were made, English-speaking communities had to organize information, strategies, and other such rules for themselves. Currently, the pokemon with the highest usage is talonflame, which is only at about 30% of all teams composition (higher in non bank at about 39%), with the top 10 hovering around 19-24% of teams.

OU: The team is shit that people made up because those percentages together generally mean you're seeing at least one of the top 10 in a team a majority of the time and they imply it to mean that everyone's running the same team.

The only tier that has anything close to OU: the team was Online Special, which had talonflame/aegislash usage at 60%.

Showdown is open source, but the team-builder is not open source. The legality checker is some complex javascript with SQL stored procedures - for obvious reasons (control), you can't go around making a completely different mode (like a battle point system) without writing a lot of brand new code.

They banned gengar because of perish trap - that piece of shit gimmick build is so transparent and easy to fucking counter it's a joke. Who doesn't have pursuit Scizor on their fucking team? Or how about priority taunt? Never fucking mind infiltrator to break sub or any number of possible hardcounters.

I've done perish trap politoed since gen iv. It's nothing special. It's a gimmick. It's a gimmick that works against idiots.

MKhan has literally 3 predictable moves - Power-Up Punch, Sucker Punch, Earthquake and a Wildcard (probably normal stab). Switch in Gengar and what the fuck can he do? He is so fucking predictable it's a joke! Smogon's essay was, "Lol you can't switch a wall i nagainst him" - of course not, you dolt. He's not easy to OHKO, but he's not a threat, especially if you bring the right MPokemon to counter him.

Now with MKhan and MGar banned from OU, OU will just spiral into further shit-tier balance until all MMons are banned to uber and nobody can have any fun with the new gen.

Smogon is total ass shit. They're supposed to do suspect testing - there were none for these two, it was all just hearsay council tyrannay.

I don't agree with either of Mega Gengar or Kangaskhan being banned, I've gotten more impressive sweeps out of Mega Gyarados than I've ever seen either of those two even attempt on my team.

252 SpA Mega Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Noivern: 193-228 (61.8 - 73%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

And LO/Specs Meteor is a guaranteed OHKO, through Sub if need be. Noivern outruns un-mega Gengar as well.

As for Kangaskhan, shit, we have Cofagrigus now. It can't do dick to Cofagrigus, and he's fun to have regardless, so it's not devoting a team slot to countering Kanga or anything. Stops Azumarill and Talonflame too, and I personally use him in tandem with Pursuit Slaking to extensively hilarious effect.

They let everything back in OU that had more than 600 BST and no abilities to nerf not named Kyurem-B. Including Skymin, Deo-A, and Darkrai, who were all quickbanned a week in.

Tornadus-T hasn't been banned since it no longer can spam Hurricane, the other two might not be banned since they're pretty frail and get rekt by priority which is very prominent this gen.

Focus blast, shadow ball, your other attacking move.

The actual use of perish/destiny trap gengar (either works in the build) is to trap in an opposing pokemon that presents a threat to your opposing sweeper then kill it so your pokemon can run unimpeded. It's like 4 Drag 2 Mag, except your magnet works on EVERYTHING but ghosts instead of just on steel types.

Gengar, as a trapper is far too strong to be considered a balanced option in the metagame.

As for your shit about how 'M-Khan is predictable because 3/4 of it's moves are generally the same', That wild card is what make m-kanga so potent, as no pokemon is an effective counter to all wild card moves that m-kanga can run.

Priority taunt is a fucking retarded excuse for why it shouldn't have been banned and shows you have no idea what you're talking about. Aside from the pokemon who actually GET priority taunt being terrible for actually stopping Mega Gengar, it also requires you to be able to switch the taunter in, which you can't because of Shadow Tag. And no Mega Gengar player who isn't braindead is going to switch it in on an unfavorable matchup unless pressured to due to the match going badly.

Yes, it can be revenge killed by Pursuit. That's not an excuse, and the fact you have to specifically say "who doesn't have pursuit scizor on their team" is a good counter-argument in itself. Not everyone should be forced to have pursuit scizor on their team, that's centralizing and it's what smogon's bans try to prevent.

Like that's what everyone seems to forget, this shit isn't 1v1. However kanga's got the benefit of needing your opponent to devote two slots to it to ensure you have something that doesn't get hosed by one of it's plethora of sets.

That, while being able to hit with ubers tier strength is what makes M-Kanga busted overall.

Exactly. You deal with cofag exactly the same way you deal with aegislash: Special attacker/EQ. It costs you one pokémon just to see if your team still has a viable counter alive, and by then it may be too late.

The same shit with gengar. Sure, it can be revenge killed or prankster Twaved or whatever, but that means it already killed something. The mains strategy to deal with it is "let it kill one of my guys, and then maybe I will kill it if the other dude doesn't have anything to switch to." Why is this not ubers?

T-Tar will die to focus blast, and Scizor will die if you carry HP Fire (and only scizor can OHKO with Pursuit regardless if gengar swaps out or not).

If gengar is carrying destiny bond, then gengar still takes out at least 2 pokemon. Basically a good gengar player is taking out your roadblock or 2 pokemon.
