I also find it weird when I watch someone on youtube or what have you and they are playing by smogon rules when playing on their DS. I figured that shit was only for other third party websites.
But its only a little annoying.

No, but I would say that most of /vp/ dislikes Smogon. Every time a thread about Smogon is made, it gets shitposted to death.

4chan in general seems to have this weird distaste of competitive stuff. Remember how /v/ used to hate the fuck out of competitive Smash players?

They probably organized the battle on Smogon. They do have on-cart battles, contrary to popular belief. The simulators are just more popular among Smogongoers. A lot of people use the simulator to test teams before actually breedingor hacking them for their game.

I like Smogon. I believe its a helpful tool for new players to use to help create a team. However in most nearly all situations the player just Ctrl+V a their entire team instead of using it as a guideline to nudge them in the right direction.
