/vp/, what determines breeding compatibility?

I have this really well-statted Absol that I use as a father for a lot of my breeding projects, but every single female I've ever put him with brings up the 'They don't like each other much' message, which means Egg turn-around is slow as fuck.

Is it something to do with the species I'm putting him with, or is my Absol just really unsmooth?

if they aren't the same species it will not go quickly. if they have the same original trainer it will not go quickly.

if they are the same species it will go quickly. if they are from different trainers it will go quickly.

those are the factors.

Does this change at all for Dittos? Because I've never had a problem with them.

THE BASICS:

Each Pokemon Species has Egg-Groups (can be found on most Pokemon information sites, can't be determined in game). Pokemon can only breed with other Pokemon that share at least one egg group with them, or Ditto. Genderless Pokemon can only breed with Ditto. Pokemon in the "Undiscovered" egg group cannot breed at all. If your Pokemon cannot breed, the day care man will say "They prefer to play with other Pokemon", or something to that effect.

Once you have two Pokemon of opposite genders that can breed in the day care, you will get one of three messages.

"Don't like each other" - default
"Kind of like each other" - Either they're the same species, or they have different Original Trainers.
"They like each other" - Same species AND different original trainers.

That's it.
