Fighting and Fire types are the extremes of babby types. Which is why gamefreak gives them all those high accuracy 120 BP moves to work with.
Little kids love those types and they love big numbers, so gamefreak provides.

Suicune is still better than Entei though.

Nope. Suicune is outclassed by most water types in OU because it lacks a secondary type, Recover and coverage moves besides Ice Beam.
Entei is now all about spamming Sacred Fire, a ridiculously OP move, so it's solid OU material.

Seriously though, fighting types should even be a thing. Their designs stick out like sore thumbs among other pokemon designs and HJK and close combat are utterly bullshit.

Fire was actually pretty down defensivley so it needed thhe buff (not over ice of course). Fire resissting fairy is logical if you take into account that faries are spirits of nature which a forest fure or two can sureley do harm.

Fire had 5 resistances, most of them being actually useful.
Their worst weaknesses, Stealth Rock and water, were fixed by introducing Defog and nerfing Drizzle, respectively, so there was no need to add a fairy resistance on top of that.

I suspect the only reason fire resists fairy is so that Megazard X and Mega Blaziken can be better.

It's like you don't even know that fighting wasn't always what it is now. They gave it the high power moves because it had literally, nothing. HJK and superpower were the only usable fighting moves, they had terrible distribution. (Like, four maybe five pokemon got superpower? Tops?)

They went overboard with new moves though in gen IV.

Just look at the fairy resists. It's all to cover up psychic's weaknesses so mega garde has a chance.

Fire was nowhere near the top of the list of types that needed a buff.
You'd think they'd boost poison offensively... only to make two of the most popular fairies (Klefki and M-Mawile) immune to it and one with a STAB that destroys them (M-Gardy). In other words Poison is still shit offensively.

Ice needs a defensive buff and it's the type that should have resisted fairy, not fire.

Psychic is pretty much a worse fairy type now.

Bug and Grass were already bad types but Smogonbird now craps all over them. And for some reason bug, a type that was resisted by SIX types, is now resisted by fairy too so it's now tied with grass for the most resisted type in the game.

How can anyone honestly claim that GF is even remotely good at balancing things?

I find amusing how they went really out of their way to make Entei worth using.
They had to give it the signature move of a 680 BST legendary, which happens to be one of the very best moves in the game, something that is very uncommon to say the least.
To be fair though, Entei has always been consistently the worst of the legendary beasts trio - Suicune and Raikou have always been OU/UU while Entei has always been RU/NU.

Don't forget they gave Articuno and Moltres Hurricane in BW2 while Zapdos didn't get it.
GF is notoriously poor at balancing things but sometimes they do get it right.

Entei is undergoing a shiny new toy syndrome and will probably be bottom OU at best once the hype dies out.
Something many people fail to realize is that if it's running Extremespeed (and it should) it's locked into an Adamant nature, meaning it will lose speed ties against the other base 100's.
Also all of Entei's coverage moves are shit - Iron Head, Stone Miss and Bulldoze (lol). Sacred Fire has 8 PP so once it runs out of those it's a sitting duck for the rest of the match.
Pressure users like Deoxys-D, Zapdos and Entei itself are relatively common right now so running out of SF PP is not very hard.

That's a bit of a fallacy. Random Wi-Fi is TECHNICALLY easier to participate in as the only qualification is "Owning a pokemon game."
Showdown, while potentially having a larger audience because it's accessible to everyone for free, still requires you to have at least an ear to the pokemon community to learn it exists at all.
The games? Turn on a TV, read a magazine, browse facebook...showdown doesn't have advertising, which is probably a good thing for (insert reason here, mine is that nintendo would catch wind and get it in their head that they're losing money because of it...even though they're not)

50 percent brn is pretty hard to counter. Brn+SR+Damage from Sacred fire adds up fast resisted or not.

Being weak to the three strongest offensive types with a Stealth Rock weakness to boot will always fuck fire types up.
It's no wonders that most of the fire type powerhouses have been stuck in UU forever.

Offensively it's always been good, though.

I'd like to see Articuno- hell, ALL the legendary birds- get Gale Wings. Seems appropriate.

Removing the Stealth Rock weakness with Magic Guard would be damn useful, but I don't know if it really makes sense thematically, which is what Game Freak would probably care more about.

Besides, priority Tailwind would help make Artie pretty useful as a support mon.
