Your defense for why you should be able to openly criticize people's religion is "hurrr, some Christians are mean to me and they say I'm going to hell!". Yeah, there are Christians who do that. I, however, am not doing that, I'm only trying to defend my religion.
If somebody is disrespecting your belief, by all means, start an argument with them. But if somebody who has a different belief as you is in the same thread, you don't need to go and act all superior because of it.
