>>17015546Because investing in a Pokemon's bad stats is pointless. If an offensive mon has a defense stat of 60, even if you invest all the way it'll still be frail as fuck, but won't be able to hit as hard or go as fast because you didn't invest in attack/speed. If a defensive mon has 50 base speed, investing in won't get you outrunning anything useful. You might think that taking points out of a good stat and putting them into a bad one would make the mon more balanced, but in reality it makes its good stats bad and its bad stats improve only insignificantly.
Anyone who's ever been on either side of a battle between an in-game team (which end up with roughly evenly-distributed EVs) and a properly EV-trained team will know this principle first-hand.
