The majority of Johto is filler; stick to the gym battles and capture episodes.

Hoenn has training a bit better, and is more of a mentor to May. Also we're introduced to contests, so we have less filler.

Sinnoh is arguably the best series (although XY is looking to beat it if it stays awesome).

Skip Unova. It's not canon.

The dub starts back January 18th, so you may want to wait for that.

Anyway. Ash has been to Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova, and hasn't won any leagues. But he beat Gary so bad he quit pokemon training. Misty and Brock are gone, however, he's met a bunch of hot chicks who got taken by others, but the new Girl actually wants his dick badly.

Brock is studying to become a Pokemon doctor, in the Cilan meets Brock episode he's apparently in Johto now. He gave the gym to his brother.

May is travelling, competing in contests.

Max is back at Petalburg gym

Dawn is also travelling

Iris and Cilan are both in Johto.

Max isn't the Gym leader, his dad still is, but I guess he's apprenticing or something.
