Small thread topic I guess: Have you ever received, or found a Shiny that has some kind of sentimental story regarding an old friend?

I personally was given a Shiny Tentacool from a friend when I just got back into Pokemon with Platinum that I cherished.

I also found my first wild Gen 6 Shiny on a friends birthday, and named it after him.

Only story I have related to shinies and friends and shit is my first shiny experience.

Ruby + Sapphire had been out for a few months and me and a few friends were hanging out after school playing Pokermans together, trying to complete the pokedex

I'm trying to find a damn Jigglypuff in that small area above the first gym's city and I've been going through 40+ battles looking for one when a greenish swellow shows up. Needless to say I thought it was a glitch (I didn't see the opening animation) and asked my buddy Cole to find a swellow so I could see something; he's re battling the Elite four for some reason and busy so I catch it to compare later. I'm waiting etc etc, find a jigglypuff, go to PC and put a normal swellow and the green swellow next to each other and they look a little different - Cole tells me its just a rare occurrence and to save it and never trade it away. 3 weeks later his dad gets a job out of state so he had to move and I never saw him again.

Building on that since rereading kind of read vague, you generally breed the two parents with the correct IV spread. Then you find someone in these threads or wifi general willing to flip the language tag. You trade them the parents, they breed a child with the same spread, and then trade the three back to you. Some people may ask for something for their time, but most people in these threads, correct me if I'm wrong of course, generally take any ol' shitmon for the third trade. Of course nice things are appreciated, but generally not required

At least for me I've got a version that I played in spanish, so anything I breed in that one has the SPA tag. For any version other than SPA, that pokemon is valid for MM. Otherwise it's pretty much what I said here >>17019598

No problem, breeding can be confusing. MMing requires two Pokémon from different languages. You can breed a perfect 5 or 6 IV mon to use, but then you're stuck with whatever foreign mon you can find and the odds are the hatched mons will be missing key stats. So some people on this board offer to flip and take two of your language Pokémon to hatch a perfect foreign baby for you, giving you the best chance that you'll get a good shiny.

I don't know if that explains it well enough, check out the FAQ's posted at the beginning of the thread, too.

Been playing since blue, only ever found 2 shinies. First was a Foongus in Y that I was pretty unhappy with, had crap ivs and it's nature boosted speed and lowered spdef. Then I decided fuck it and went chain fishing, took about 3 hours but got myself a shiny gyarados that with 252 evs in atk has 192 stat at Lvl 50 and a nature that boosted atk and lowered Def. Sure it ain't the best but I love it

Sob story incoming

When i was a kid, me and a bunch of friends used to play Fire Red, Leaf green and Emerald, respectively, i had fire red, my cousin had Leaf green and a girl called Vivian from my class had Emerald.

One day she managed to catch a Latias, and was super excited about it. The thing was, she wasn't too good at powerleveling, and back then levels were all that mattered to us. She asked me if i could level it up a bit for her, and traded it to me. I sat the entire night and ran through the elite 4 in fire red, the next day it was lvl 100. She got super exited and was so thankful.

After some years, i moved away, and we slowly lost contact, which was pretty rough, got depressed for a while. And April of last year she died in an accident, which was the most painful experience of my life, partly because i lost one of my oldest childhood friends, and partly because i had lost her some time before that.

So a few weeks ago, i started SR'ing for a shiny Latias in White 2, and got it about a week ago.

so say I take my marill, and breed her with some dittos and then get a 5 IV marill, and trade you her holding a destiny knot, and an adamant ditto holding an everstone. You'd trade me two mon to hold onto until you breed a foreign marill, with the correct nature, IVs, and ability, then trade them all back to me where i'd give you your two mon back along with some payment for your time?

That rate assumes that hatching rates were halved and it's still a times 6 multiplier. Really we're in the dark pretty hardcore

Take it for what you will, but serebii claims that shiny rates have indeed been halved, but they also make the claim that MM rates have been increased as well and frankly I don't see how people have 100 box dry spells if the odds are somewhere around 1/500. Totally possible, just worse odds than getting a shiny on egg 1

oops wrong math sorry. 3000 is still possible for those probabilities, though. unlucky but possible. usually a series of negative can go up to like, ten time your number without being whorrying. So 5000 pokes witout a shiny is still acceptable.

HA sadly. I've tried FS, but that was an 18 hour venture of absolutely nothing to show for it, so I'd rather have something I have some remote sort of control over.
It's cool though, I've MMd shinies before, I've got something like 8 of them under my belt, though those usually only took an average of 30 boxes which would be the correct statistical average if shiny rates weren't halved, but whatever. Passes the time if nothing else

MM is only to be used when necessary. If you just wanted a shiny froakie, chances are that grinding someone's safari will have give you one way faster.
MM is really only profitable if you cant fish, pokeradar, horde grind or safari grind the poke

I'd rather mm something so I can pass egg moves, nature and at the very least 4 IVs that I want. I wouldn't call it a last resort, it's the best route for competitive shinies.

At best, with a synchronizer, you only have a 50% chance of getting the right nature and chaining up to 40 or FS only gives you 2 IVs that are random

be sure to take advantage of the o powers charging faster if you street pass registers 4000 steps. You don't have to walk 4000 step, as you can just wiggle the Ds, but having 4000 charges your o powers faster

It added "in the wild" from the past iteration of it, so the general assumption is that it doesn't. General shiny rates were halved anyhow, so the effect from last gen is just the default now

Well, I've chain fished Magikarps once, got to 154 consecutive catches until I got bored.

I think the rates are fine where they are for this gen, they didn't change much about the way items work, so I don't seem them changing the shiny charm either. I'm just pointing out that XY was the easiest game in the pokemon series this far. Rare candies aren't even that rare considering pokemiles. WT makes it easy to always find a trade. I'm not saying these are bad things, because I love the pokemiles, WT, and other things, I'm just making the point that game freak has made things a lot easier this gen.

Okay this is crazy as hell. yesterday i hatched my shiny Snivy after 54 eggs (he's doing lovely) and about 10 minutes ago I hatched a shiny tepig after 3 EGGS. He's adamant with 31 in hp, attack, and speed. I can't believe it. I'm so happy.
