Quash is an incredibly unreliable fake out that doesn't stop attacks and is useful once every 500 battles on the rare chance you can actually have it be useful one time in said battle to get a single kill, and that only happens if you're running it on Prankster Murkrow or Raikou because in any other instance, your second Pokemon should be faster anyway, or your quash user will be too slow for it to ever matter.

Or give Pokemon 4 spare move slots, meaning that a Pokemon can have 8 moves but only 4 active in battle, they can all be switched around outside of battle. You can have Pokemon fill these 4 spare slots with HMs, and they can be used outside of battle even if it's not part of your 4 active slots.

I'd personally like a system like back in Ranger where a Pokemon has an innate ability in addition to all the shit they can already do

So you can cut with scyther all the time, or a Farfetch'd I guess, or a Kabutops. You don't have to teach it to do that shit

Or you can unlock it, give the HM to Scyther and it doesn't learn it as a move/ can choose not to learn it as a move and it's simply "unlocked".

I think all HMs should be key items that you don't have to teach your pookemon, but any pokemon capable of using an HM you have can use it outside of battle.

Let's think of ways to make all the useless HMs good.
Strength- Works like Dragon Tail, but keeps its 80 power.
Flash- Lowers opponents Accuracy by 2 stages (would definitely be banned in competitive).
Whirlpool-???
Rock Smash- (It was an HM) Does double damage to Rock types.
Dive- Power raised to 90
Rock Climb- Higher accuracy and confusion chance.

Except after one turn your threat should already be dead, otherwise it would have killed you, and if you need to use quash on the threat again a second turn, it was a surviving threat the first turn, meaning you used quash entirely wrong already and basically entirely wasted half a turn.

And being situationally useful in doubles in 1/500 cases does not make it useful. It makes it useless except that one situation.
If Murkrow was faster than 91 base speed so you could quash fake outers and sucker punchers and maybe have a niche doing that, but without investment it doesn't outspeed standard doubles Hitmontop who runs extra speed to get off close combat kills, it doesn't outspeed any form of Meowstic, and this is all making you run it on only Murkrow to get any use out of it at all.

The whole thing with accuracy lowering is that opponents can switch whereas evasion raising, you can't force a switch without some very specific moves.

Whirlpool is okay as it is due to the buff all the binding moves got in Gen 6. I'd like it if Binding band made them able to stack or did more damage or something.

That dive is still useless. So is that Rock Smash since it's already fighting type.

Rock climb needs to actually have anything to do with rocks. Make it clear stealth rocks or do double damage on rock types or something.

all status moves are "situationally useful" and of course its only useful in doubles that doesnt invalidate its usefulness when the game is balanced for doubles. helping hand is only useful in doubles too

So all of those times that your opponent has not one, but two major, able-to-OHKO-you Pokemon in their lineup of 4 Pokemon out of 718.

That speaks more to the fact that you chose a bad matchup in your team of 4 than that Quash is any sort of good. Quash is only useful if you can guarantee a kill on the Pokemon the same turn before the end of the turn when they act and your opponent has a Pokemon out that not only outspeeds your second Pokemon, but is also slower than your quash user. Guaranteeing that twice situation twice, if anything, means you'd be better off with a trick room team. Fake Out also has the same effect of giving you a chance to take out a major threat before it acts, and in 4v4, only being able to be used once means you've eliminated 1/4 of your opponent's team still. 99% of the situations wherein you used quash, you could have had fake out do the same job, because it's just as situational with its turn 1-only restriction.

Statuses are situationally useful, yes, but they're useful in basically every one out of two cases. Quash is so much more situational because of how little it does, how much it costs you in return (you could have featherdanced, you could have healed, you could have set up a sub, you could have hazed) there's so few places where you'd prefer using quash to do anything else that it's barely even worth it on Murkrow. It's 100% useless on every other Pokemon bar maybe Raikou due to its speed. But even then it would probably be the one who does the killing.

Helping hand sees absolutely no use in actual doubles, don't even give me that shit. You're giving your teammate a 1.5x power boost when you yourself could also be attacking and both of you together have 2x as much power.
That shit's only use is in like, NU doubles where you can't even kill without the extra power. Which is pretty much nonexistent.

I kinda had a similar thought the other day. Make HMs and TMs seperate in a slightly different way, lets use Cut as an example. Create the TM Cut, which teaches the battle move Cut, and the HM Cut, which teaches the field move cut.

Each mon can have one HM-Move learnt at any given time, which doesn't interfere with their regular battle moves. Pros, no more HM moves taking up valuble battle move slots, and only real Con is you'd have to spread your HMs out instead of having one HM slave.

That and with reusable TMs anyway it's not like HMs are special other then being field moves... which a few TMs are too. So a greater difference between battle and field would be good.

jesus dude, im just speaking from experience with having used a murkrow with quash. it comes in handy, maybe thats just because of my particular team or whatever but if i "chose bad matchups" and quash enabled me to avoid losing because of that does that not make it useful?
