I just got Pokemon X, any general beginner's tips?

I usually go with water type but the grass one is tempting me, how does he hold up?

I found it hard to decide until I learned that your starter decides which legendary bird you can get post-game. Fennekin gets you Zapdos, so I went with that. Don't know what the other two match up with.

keep the exp share if you want the game to be easy.
it's in-game, so your starter doesn't matter; just pick the one you like the most

Froakie gets you Moltres so Chespin is Articuno.

Water or grass will serve you, OP. Fennekin is the mug of this gen.

I just got Pokemon Y and went with the grass type. He's not bad, mine was impish so he had solid attack and defense and once he evolves into Chesnaught I found Spikey Shield and Power up Punch to be a few cool moves it worked well with. Sucks about the massive flying weakness but it's manageable.

Indeed, but Zapdos is my favorite Pokemon, so I got Fennekin, named him "Zapdos Bait" and used him maybe twice.

Yes, but I heard the exp. share was different in this one somehow. Sorry, English isn't my first language and I find it hard to say what I'm trying to say sometimes.

Oh okay, then. Yeah the EXP Share works like it did in Gen I by giving all of your Pokémon Exp after a battle, but in this gen, they all get an equal amount. If you leave it on, you pretty much don't have to grind for levels.
