>>170864041: Why not, really. Did we need Fairy type? Should it have been "Magic" instead? Could GF just've redone the type match up chart?
And it feels odd to just leave a whole slew of sound based moves as Normal when other moves have been retconned as arguably "concept" types like Dark or Fairy. If "Martial arts" and "underhanded fighting" can be types, why not sounds?
2. I didn't want to weaken Rock first of all, as so many other fan interpretations seem to do; its got enough problems. Most of the type matchups here are for balance but I at least wanted them rooted with some logic.
Off:
SE- vibrations disrupting the air, water and ground that things move in. Songs/frequencies said to calm/hurt spirits.
NVE - solid, sturdy materials crumbling to sounds it a bit cliche, and I'd rather strengthen the image of Rock and Steel as defensive types. And Grass because plants are usually sturdy and flexible, so I couldn't imagine sound waves doing to much to them.
X0- I can't see airwaves doing much against energy.
Def:
SE- Cold freezing the air and making whatever is making a sound rigid and brittle, so less flexible to form sounds. Psychic as a clear mind can cut through noise.
NVE- Again, energy versus air vibrations. Fairy as loud sounds could beat out any Disarming Voices and mesmerising tones.
X0- Simply absorbs any soundwaves.
4. Steel having Dark and Ghost neutral against it and its weaknesses being common powerful types means it has enough to deal with. And how is the current type chart OP?
Sorry for the wall of text, hope this clears it up a bit.
