I haven't played any of the Sinnoh games and wish to fix that. Normally I'd assume to just get Platinum because it's the best version, but people here seem to think Platinum actually ruined DP.

I'm curious why is that and which one should I go for then Plat or DP?

i preferred platinum, more happened storyline wise, theres the distortion world to explore which is cool (it makes you wonder though, if they can make something that complex why are all the routes so simple) plus you have the move tutors and battle frontier post game

Well the gist of what I've read is: they made the routes more linear than before, removing exploration and they lowered trainer battle levels making the game easier. I think there was more, but these are the two major complaints I remember seeing.

You've been misinformed. Platinum is the definitive version of the Sinnoh games. It'd be insane to get Diamond or Pearl over Platinum.

Can anyone pin down what made this happen? It's the same region, 90% same story, what happened other than the Frontier to make Platinum so much better?

The speed, the Pokedex, slight graphic changes, the updated story was enough to make it a LOT better, and there were probably plenty of other small fixes I'm forgetting about.

The Battle Zone too, of course.

I just like how Platinum combined the two games and added more story. Kind of like how Emerald did the same thing when they had both Kyogre and Groudon. The Giritina stuff was pretty great for me but he is also one of my favorite legendaries so that probably skews my opinion a bit.

Slow menus
Lots of new Pokemon weren't available until post game
Gym leaders used Pokémon that weren't even of their type (Volkner has an Octillery and Ambipom in D/P for some unexplained reason)

Lack of fire types is a big one. They made a fire type E4 despite there being only 2 fire types available in DP (including Chimchar).

Most of its dex contains evolutions for pokemon that needed them. However, you can't get most of those pokemon until you can transfer them over.

Platinum solves these two by adding more fire types and those pokemon in the wild,

It was the last game I played (I skipped Black/White) and I remember randomly turning it on after weeks just to go to the battle frontier.

Loved receiving 3 random pokes and using them for battle.

Platinum, no competition. It's still a bit slow and Sinnoh does get obnoxiously large and HM reliant, but it's still very fun.

Probably one of the toughest games as well, especially in a Nuzlocke.

They did lower the E4 levels, but that was mostly to alleviate the level grinding to a slight degree.
