How is it creative making a team that beats the most common team? The most retarded wifi battlers try to do that if you 6-0 them, they at least get the pokemon right but lose because it turns out that if you need to build a team for sole purpose of defeating a given set, you will probably lose anyway because you're bad at the game.

And usually, the new sets and mons they're drafting fulfill some sort of concrete defensive or offensive niche for their teams, not just countering a whole bunch of shit because it's common. That's what Clefable and Mandibuzz do at the moment, and why they're OU.

Remember Obistall? Where some smogonfag made a god-tier stall team using shit nobody has heard of like Spiritomb and Nidoqueen? Hell, Tentacruel only went OU because of it. Only <50 Pokemon would've happened even if Smogon didn't exist. It always does - look at any fighting game ever. It would be even MORE restricted in fact, because you have so many centralising threats and because of that, less viable strategies to go by.
