Pokemon Contests were a nice idea, but in practice they kind of sucked. Here are my ideas for including them in the next generation:

I think it would be interesting to include things like Pokemon Contests and Pokethlon as 'alternative quests' for game players. Instead of merely focusing on beating the Pokemon Champion, you could compete in other events as well.
