In the Pokémon games, a lot of moves have effects that are not described in-game but often follow some sort of logic.
Take Rain Dance for instance, the game just flat out says "Boosts Water-type moves for 5 turns", but in reality it has a lot of other little "realistic" effects:
-It makes Fire moves and Solar Beam weaker
-It gives Thunder and Hurrican 100% accuracy
-In Gen 4 it made Thunder bypass protective moves
