Cheating and exploiting have very fine lines. Instacheck bordered on cheating but never crossed into that territory. If instacheck let you change anything at all about the data, even something as minimally useful as the met location, it would be cheating. It simply let us see the data of our eggs as well as other data thats hidden in the game like the shiny values. We couldnt change anything about the values to match the egg, we could just observe and exploit those observations to get shiny shit.

I make an egg, I want said egg to hatch shiny but dont have the magic bicycle for it. Someone else does, I give them the egg, they hatch it on their magic bicycle, they give me the shiny mon, whose egg was originally mine, back and I probably send some 4-5IV egg move mon their way as a thanks. No harm done, the mon could be shit stats if the breeder was incompetent or it could be some 6IV ubermensch. Regardless, the only thing that changes is aesthetics.

Stealing from a bank is exactly that, taking something that isnt yours. The contents in the bank are not being changed in a way that doesnt affect their overall value (example; taking a $100 American bill and leaving the exact equivalent in Pesos), they are simply being taken.
