Japanese gamers hate DLC, they actually prefer discs (which is why there was never a question whether or not the PS4, Vita, and 3DS would have physical games for sale)
All of those "special" pokemon are frequently promotional gimmicks by companies that make deals with nintendo to get asses in the door. For example, the Happy Hour Inkay was to attract more people to the new Tokyo Bay Pokemon Center.
Unfortunately, other than Gamestop and Toys R Us, no one in the US is interested in these types of events. Walmart has some exclusives as well, but unlike most of the Japanese promos (the special wobbuffett requires you to play a silly arcade game, and there are a few that are given away with their pokemon-focused magazines) they expect you to actually BUY something to get it.
That said, they could be a little better about the ones that come packed with other games...

I know the happy hour move isn't an egg move for Inkay or any other pokemon in its egg group.

It's part of what makes events special, why the fuck would you want it any other way? That said, maybe you can get the event and wonder card onto a Gen V rom and do the grunt work yourself. It's just as good.

You're right, but that still doesn't explain why Japan got some WiFi exclusive events that we didn't, especially considering that the we had been exposed to the same exact events that called for such distributions, most notably Nobunaga's Rayquaza (Conquest getting localized), and the shiny Hydreigon and Golurk (the Victini movie).

I like to think that the whole reason they give themselves more stuff is because it's an entirely different culture over there. Where things like Pokemon are more "accepted" so to say by the public. Where as over here, whether you want to admit it or not, it's marketed as nothing more than a child's video game for children.

I'd argue that we are in the second golden age of pokemon. All my friends that quit after either gen 3, or gen 1 are even playing it.

Which begs the question, what was the point of running these when we could have gotten the rayquaza, genesect, and victini? Because I know those three would have drew in just as many kids. Those events are to used as ads to get people to come to your place

Cinemas and game stores probably think they don't need to do it because they're big enough so just settle for normal posted billboard ads instead of something different

Which is why I pointed out that the other three would have accomplished the same thing.....I know a ton of little brats who would shit their pants over a shiny genesect (and to a lesser degree, rayquaza).

I get that this was more....thematic? I just....don't get it....it was a wasted opportunity to give us something better.
