I think the writers were probably rushing with the onset of XY. It makes little sense that they would go with Ash all the way to Kanto and not go with him to Pallet Town, and not even stay in Kanto for two seconds before hauling off to Johto.

Has it ever occurred to anyone that pikachu was once a pichu? It probably had a trainer that it was happy with, hence how it evolved. The trainer probably abandoned pikachu, which is why it didn't listen to ash at first.

It obviously was one before because it could learn Volt Tackle.

I just wish the writers would explore Pikachu's backstory a little more. They're exploring Ash's past in XY so why not answer some questions on Pikachu.

Why was it such a dick when it met Ash? when did it meet Oak? Why does it hate evolving?
