That's because of the typing. Water/Electric is really good. Only one weakness, a good inmunity in ground and a handful of useful resistances that aren't that common on other pokes.
That's why it's always 2HKO'd by strong fighting and dragon type moves.

I'm very conflicted this gen.

Talonflame became my favorite Pokemon from concept alone, I fell in love with Fletchling and was excited to use Talonflame in whatever tier he landed himself in. I was very pleased when he turned out to be viable, and rather surprised when he became as popular as he did. In trying to build the best team to support him, I ended up landing on a TFlame/Ferrothorn/Rotom-W core with spin support from Excadrill. Hardly unique, but they're all mons I like and they synergize oh so well (also have a SubDisable Gengar and DDNite).

Rotom is a weird case for me. I like the little guy's concept, and Water/Electric typing is pretty awesome. I was unsure about him at first, and really only picked him up cuz he pairs well with my bird buddy, but he earned his status as a bro by outstalling a Sub/Protect/Toxic/EQ Poison Heal Gliscor for 60+ turns till it Struggled itself to death.

I'm kinda surprised to see that with Rotom-W running around that Kyurem-B hasn't been seeing an increase in usage.

His specially based set is looking pretty good this gen.

216+ SpA Teravolt Kyurem-B Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Mega Venusaur: 188-224 (51.6 - 61.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

216+ SpA Teravolt Kyurem-B Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Rotom-W: 136-162 (44.7 - 53.2%) -- 86.7% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

And that's considering that Calm Rotom, when most people are running Bold, and Rotom can't really touch him behind a sub.

He can also tank a hit from Talonflame if he has to.
