Poké Balls are specifically meant to catch Pokémon, right? Well I just had a thought.

Genesect is covered head to toe with robotic and MAN-MADE accessories, so they aren't really part of the Pokémon itself.

Golurk and Golett aren't organic Pokémon, and are proven to be man-made robots.

What allows the Poké Ball to contain these things? Could a Poké Ball capture more than just Pokémon?

Well, I mean, game logic. It isn't perfect.

If we extrapolate, though, we have two directions we could take it.
1. The balls would have to have some means of transforming matter into electromagnetic waves, apparently in low frequencies based on the dull red laser effect seen on the show. Now, that would mean that, theoretically, they should be able to capture anything on contact. It would be up to the discretion of the trainer to not run around catching trains and innocent bystanders.
2. We could say that the balls interact only specifically with Pokémon, perhaps by manipulating whatever bizarre power allows them to manipulate elements/cause earthquakes/generate toxins, which are traits that just about all of them have. Maybe the ball reacts to that energy in order to work, so only a being with the ability to do all that magical shit could be captured. By this logic, Genesect and the Go family would have somehow obtained that energy and thus become official Pokémon. This could also explain why the anime shows normal animals, but none of them can be captured by balls.

Pokeballs are general storage items, not just for Pokemon. They hold items as seen in all the games, then you have Voltorb and Foongus, who are the Pokemon equivalent of mimics.

Okay, if you can put a pokeball inside a pokemon, could you put a pokemon in a pokeball and give the pokeball to a pokemon and put that pokemon in a pokeball and put that pokeball in a pokeball to give to another pokemon to put into another pokeball, or would the PC get in the way? I was thinking you could put a pokemon in a pokeball and put the pokeball on a pokemon while putting the pokemon in a pokeball while putting the pokemon in a pokeball to give to another pokmon inside a pokeball to only keep on pokeball on your belt so that your pokemon are like gatekeepers to your other pokemon, but I dont know if that would work because if there are pokemon inside the pokeball if that would pokeball the pokemon while maintaining the rotational velocidensity of the data in the pokemons pokeball without screwing anything up too much, because, I mean, pokeballs turn matter into energy and then compress it right? so why can we store pokmon inside pokeballs?
