So I just got Pokemon White 2 for the sole purpose of having something to transfer from my older games that are on R4 to bank. Never played Black or White 1. How far do I need to get to be able to trade? Any requirements I need to fulfill?

You can't transfer from R4 or emulator to BW 1 or 2 afaik, you need an actual D/P/Pt/HG/SS cart.

BW2 is probably the best game in the series especially in terms of post game. BW1 has the best story and probably most unique experience as far as Pokemon games go. It's a good gen, and both have their ups and downs. I recommend giving it a try.

nah that guy is an idiot, you can transfer from an emulator or r4 file. I really don't know what the restrictions on trade are, for how far you need to go to unlock full trading. I traded from an emulator to my cart but I had already beaten the game (elite 4). I suggest just beating the elite 4 and obtain the national dex and try trading from there if it doesn't work from the start.

Since you mentioned never having played gen 5 before, I'll assume you're wanting to transfer from gen 4. In that case, you need to beat the E4 in BW2 before you can do so. You made the right choice though, since BW2 are compatible with PokeBank.

Not entirely. It's a shame you didn't play BW1, after Sinnoh it felt like a breath of fresh air for the series. They did the story quite a bit differently than all the previous games. I would say, no you don't need to read a synopsis but things involving the Tao trio might be more confusing to you towards the end. Overall BW2's story is decent but BW's was better.
