At what point will /vp/ accept the fact that the Bank release has been cancelled?

The latest release date guess I've been hearing was this Thursday, because "that's when the eShop updates". Guess what? It's Thursday right now, and nothing has changed. Nothing will ever change. No gaijin will ever lay their hands on the Poké Transporter, and maybe that's the way it should be.

No, that's not it. Server maintenance is the reason the Bank was delayed in the first place, and they got everything up and running again a few days later.

Didn't they tweet from their Japanese account that they were testing the servers? Because, once they release it for -any- country, it's going to blow up and they need to be prepared.

So when they open for Japan only, remember that they need to guage the amount of traffic before they're ready to open it for America/Europe/Aus. They can't just "push the button" and have it all be well. If everyone accessed it at once it would just shut down again, so I can guarantee you that Japan will get it first and the rest a while after.

but knowing /vp/, once Japan's rerelease date is announced everyone will go "please understand" "we're not getting it" "confirmed for no release outside of Japan even though they didn't say it was cancelled"

I dearly hope they announce release dates for every country all at once so we can avoid that.

I'm not the other anon but if you downloaded a pokemon from pokecheck it will have a special ribbon which prevents it from being deposited on GTS or something, I don't know if it's blocked on pokebank though but I would assume so.

Consider: Nintendo is probably adding new servers.
Odds are, they are just pulling them out of their asses. What they had before wasn't even enough to hold the eShop up after Christmas, they would not be anywhere near prepared to add the load Pokebank would create on top of that. They may not be exactly dropping everything else to rush working on it, but that doesn't mean they aren't at all. And it seems like they're going with the mentality of "If we're going to delay this, it had better never run into a fucking issue again". And, you must admit there is good reasoning to that. If bank had an unexpected outage, many people could potentially lose Pokemon. If it was bad enough, some people could probably even stand a chance of having their entire bank become emptied in error. This is obviously something that would be categorized as "Very bad, do not want."

tl;dr Pokemon important, Nintendo servers small and few, much to fix, can't fix overnight

It was never intended to be a global release, strictly speaking. There was supposed to be two days between each regional release. Probably to try to stagger out the server load. When it came to Japan, it killed Nintendo's servers so they delayed the release everywhere else.

Eventually Pokecheck will be able to do the same thing, and it's not like people can spout "b-but it's impossible to get those Pokemon! Bank never came out!" because the Japanese have had it, and nobody can prove you didn't just have a Japanese 3DS or got it from a Japanese player.

Pokecheck was pretty much Pokemon Bank before Bank was a thing, anyway.

Nintendo's online infrastructure is awful. Valve and Sony's servers were only wonky for a few hours.

Nintendo had problems for days and actually delayed a product in the process. They need to move beyond the 20th century

if they are so worried about the load, why not do the same damn thing and relese it by regions in the same day, just separated by hours so the server can cooldown after the regional load
