Ive got an issue with my breeding it would seem. Ive got 2 shellders, one with perfect spDef and the other with perfect def. I put power belt on one and power band on the other, but when i go to check the IVs on the hatched egg it only passes on the defense OR the special defense. Am i doing something wrong?

you have to use destiny know.
It makes your pokemon pass down 5 ivs randomly chosen.

Alos power items don't stack, i'm sorry. You can stack a power item with destiny knot.

When you breed with Destiny bond, in your case, it will be:
4/6 chances you pass both def and spdef.
also you want def nd sp def to be the right (1/2 each one).

so i's 4/(6*2*2)=1/6 chances to take one with sp def and def.

If you use both destiny know and power item:
1 of the stat is passed down.
Now 4 more stats are picked to be passed down.
4/5 (every case is okay except not passing the stat you want to pass)
and then 1/2 to take the right IV on that stat.

so 4/(5*2)=2/5 chances.
