Staraptor has the best design (IMO), stat distribution, typing, and move pool.

Talonflame has the best ability, decent stats, and an okay move pool.

Talonflame wins though, and is a prime example of how an ability alone can make a Pokemon go from UU trash to Top OU.

Staraptor. It has Intimidate, much more Attack, and better coverage. Talonflame is only better against unprepared teams (Quick Guard pretty much shuts down Talonflame).

It should be noted that I only doubles. I can only imagine Talonflames usage dropping after these upcoming tournaments after people realize Talonflame offers little utility and damage.

Intimidate is just too good in doubles right now, especially with U-turn. Gale Wings is pretty overrated on Talonflame.

Design wise: both are pretty equal but Staraptors shiny is a lot nicer looking.

Smogonfag here. The best way to use Staraptor is by shitting on Talonflame's counters. That's right, instead of Double Dragon, it's Double Bravest Bird. Once Rotom-W dies to Reckless Double-Edge and Heatran dies to Close Combat (Staraptor is a great lure for these guys), clean up with Talonflame.

Why are people running a speed boosting nature with max speed EV's on a Pokemon that's pretty much defined by its signature priority move? The only other move I've ever seen a Talonflame use is the rare Flare Blitz against a weakened steel type which are all slow as shit anyway.

The only faster priority user is Mega Luke whose Fighting type priority doesn't threaten Talonflame that much. And nobody cares about outspeeding other Talonflames because not going Adamant means you lose out on precious HP EVs so you can keep Bravest Burding. And you also lose out on scoring important OHKOs and 2HKOs by not going Adamant.

Why do people think Staraptor has a good design? It's catered towards edgy teenagers, with a hipster haircut. I think it's the worst of the regional birds. As far as competitive, Talonflame outshines it because it fills the late game sweeper niche better than any other Pokemon, while Staraptor has things that do its job better.

Pidgeot. It literally has no real niche as anything it can do gets outclassed by something else.

Design-wise, that's pretty subjective. Personally I'm the least fond of Unfezant, mainly the male design. The plumes on it look so ugly to me. The female design is fine though.

Literally the only thing remotely "emo" about Staraptor is the crest on its head, and even then that's just a stylistic exaggeration of something that can be found on real-life birds. I don't know why people blow it out of proportion.
