I think it's a tad too sentimental for the game. It would have fit better if AZ was more involved with the plot, like N in B/W, and just like N you meet AZ near the beginning and your relationship with him develops throughout the story, rather than just seeing him a couple of times. It's kinda incongruous having this huge, tearjerker Award Bait Song for a game where everyone is screaming "Mega Evolution!" early on.
