The fighting style was actually pretty interesting. It managed to set itself apart from Smash spectacularly. The balance was simply so bad that there was no point in using over half the cast.

Kratos was the absolute worst. He wasn't even the best character in the game (that would be Raiden), he just had massive sweeping attacks that built ton of meter, and then KO moves which filled huge chunks of the screen. Because all online matches were 4v4 FFAs, Kratos's massive reach just let him dominate by button mashing half the time. The fact he had almost no recovery period on his attacks also made him incredibly difficult to punish with anyone but Raiden with his bullshit counter.
Still, the game gets far more shit than it deserves, simply because they tried to make their own version of Smash.
