He almost ran but then figured to catch it to see if he stayed glitch because that would be kinda cool. He also ran into a light blue Poliwhirl, we figured something was wrong with his game. He didn't use those pokemon with other normal ones in the party to keep them safe.
Of course it's '014 now and something like a shiny should be more widely known, but it happens
