Why are there so many faggots out there who do single battles instead of double battles/use legendaries and call themselves competitive players?

Doing single battles takes 100% depth out of this game. Are these people fucking retarded? Especially showdown faggots who are doing single battles all day. What the fuck.

Single battles are nothing but "Rock, paper, scissors" games.

I hope everyone who does single battles dies in a fire

If you're talking about the single-player, that's not much of an argument for the depth of 1v1.

The whole thing's basically an extended tutorial for the multiplayer with a few enjoyable bolt-ons.

I've done a shitton of battles, and let me tell you, only casuals using their in-game teams battle in a "Rock, paper, scissors" fashion.

Most legit competitive is singles. World Championship is doubles purely to make battles shorter, same reason why 3v3 singles is the standard online in-game. For whatever reason GF is obsessed with making battles short instead of good, full length, proper singles battles.

Plus why the fuck would anyone bother with doubles when 99% of the game is presented in Single Battle format, or Multi Battle with a shitty partner? If GF wants people to play doubles then there should be some fucking double battles in the game.

Until there's an established major singles tournament with cash prizes, it's not "legit competitive".

At the minute singles multiplayer is only supported competitively by Smogon and the like, which don't offer actual incentive.

That's incentive for playing singles, absolutely.

It's not incentive for the kind of tight competitive play that a major money tournament can provide, or the examples to newer players that records of that top-level play will bring.

I mean, Smogon's a big example of that. The top Smogon players and oldest contributors get to change the rules to form the game they want, rather than playing within the established rules. "Playing" is mucking about with rules to form a pleasant experience. Actually competing means working completely within the rules framework towards a set goal, which only doubles provides right now.

I've only started playing competitively this gen. My only experience is in single battles, and I think I'm doing okay-ish there. Started watching double battles to learn some more about them, and about double-battle specific moves. I can't say for certain but it does seem like double battle takes a little more planning, because you need a good synergy.

Other than that, I kept seeing most of the same pokemon I see online, lots of garchomps, megas, rotom wash, talonflame. There wasn't much variety as I expected it to be.

Doubles definitely needs more synergy than singles. It's like a completely different game sometimes. Entry hazards are usually rare, since there isn't as much switching - and switching is what takes up the most time in singles anyway. It's not surprising that double battles are shorter, since you generally have half your party out (for Battle Spot)/a third of your party out (for battles with friends) and there isn't nearly as much switching. There are pokemon that are specifically designed for doubles, too, like Florges - both of its abilities are useless in singles.
