/vp/, how come you guys hate it when the community works together on a project?

Whether it be fags stirring up shit-storms on both threads or just fags in general, it seems people hate on the community having fun and making a game.

Here's why I hate fan made mons:

If they are good, Gamefreak would never use anything remotely like it, so they're basically taking away from Gamefreak's possible mons.

Are you from /tg/? If so, that might explain your confusion.

On /tg/, you can create material and play with it. It never matters if it becomes official, because you control what goes down at your table.

Video games have a much higher barrier of officialness. There's no real payout for people outside of a very specific group, and--as noted by >>17467148--there's the concern that copyright laws would prevent interesting ideas from being used if players came up with them first.

Every time I see a Mega concept art or evolutions or pre-evo or fucking anything that I want I get angry because now it can never be so. Gamefreak, or any Japanese game company for that matter, is not Valve. Nothing will ever be user created.

Why can't GF use them? I'm sure any fan would want their creation to be used.

Is it some pride complex? If they use something that someone else made, would they feel bad?

It's a huge pride complex. Those mons you mentioned were developed in private and locked down like any other mon under development by GF. Japanese game companies HATE community mods because to them, it implies that their game could have been better and japanese companies in general like to pretend they always release the best product they could.

Basically, they're butthurt they didn't think of all the ideas first. There was a time Sakurai said he wanted to stop making SSB because of all the mods that were happening to SSBB. Another time, when a FF mod was being made for free distribution, SE shut it down so quickly because they don't want people comparing it to them at all.

The Japanese people hate community contribution.

You know the head of FF said that if someone took the lesser known titles that never got ported and copied the data for them, they could compile it and make a release on a current console for them.

They make a game remove several features so they can add it 2 years later them seperate a few pokemon and other stuff into 2 different games

And act as if nobody can fucking improve that
They purposely butcher their own games and become surprised at the idea of a fan improving it

Funnily enough the only reason I got into FF was because of a fan game I played 14 years ago online

I would have never even humoured the idea of turn based games before

Same thing with portal, didn't pay attention to gaming media or anything so never heard of it
Saw a flash game, enjoyed it and bought the real one

I'm sure as hell not blowing money on a game I never played unless I watch 10-30 minutes of actual gameplay instead of their spiced up previews

I think the thing about fans stopping gf from using ideas is bollocks. It's like people are trying to justify the stupid-ass designs of gen 6 by saying 'its because all the decent ideas were taken'
