hey /vp/ help me think of a way to support this guy....

he is at an awkward speed for trickroom i think...

so maybe tailwind?

also malamar general discussion welcomed as well.

Trick Room is excellent for Malamar. Just give it a speed-lowering nature and go wild.

That said, Malamar is best used in doubles/triples/rotation, where it can pop off a trick room in (relative) safety. My strategy below:

RH5G-WWWW-WWW4-LUFL

EVs for my squid are fully-invested in attack and defense to survive at least one hit and get TR out there.

Solo Malamar sweep:
H48G-WWWW-WWWX-UEZL

Trick Room Malamar is one of the best sets for it. As soon as even a single thing starts going right for the squid, it becomes nigh-unstoppable.

That said, if you don't want to go the trick room route, tailwind works wonders in doubles/triples/rotation, and you don't have to waste one of Malamar's turns using it.

Funny thing is, megalukes use close combat on the first turn. EVERY TIME.

Which just makes superpowering them into dust all that much easier.

The best nature for a TR Malamar (in my opinion) is relaxed or brave. Anything that lowers speed is good, and a nature that increases attack or defense is the best option for superpower Malamar.

I like your quads, but Malamar can't take any +2 hit from a Lucario, and needs no prior damage or hazards to survive the Close Combat.
