It's 2 things: Friend Safari and Pokémon Bank.
Friend Safari is totally dependent on the 3DS Friend List, the only way to get those codes and names across is to put them in the name box, leading to more namefagging, and when paired with begging for Ditto Safaris, it gets obnoxious real fast. This is the less of the 2 evils, once you get a Safari you need, you're pretty much done, you don't need to keep asking for shit anymore, and it generally helps in completing the Pokedex.
Pokémon Bank is the absolute fucking worst cause of this boards decline. Thanks to Pokémon Bank, everyone now has:
>6IV Dittos for Breeding
>Legendaries
>Unobtainable Shit
But thanks to the release date getting shitcanned, only a couple people have access to Pokebank, so everyone needs to use cloning now to get what they want, and thanks to cloning threads, a dickload of people now have access to Dittos and Legends. The Dittos lead to giveaway threads, where some namefag (tripfag if Ditto giveaway) asks people to give them attention for either a Ditto or some 5IV Pokémon, which usually leads to drama if some Anon gets rowdy or the OP gets butthurt. The Legends and unobtainables lead to more cloning threads, which sounds innocent enough, spreading more Event Legends around, but there's less cloners and more beggars who show up to the threads, and dramatic shitstorms happen real fast with their abundance. Then, thanks to Bank's lack of release, now we get "PLEASE UNDERSTAND" threads every goddamn day by people who have nothing better to do than shitpost and express anger at a company that'll never listen to them; it's a mini-/v/.
Take these three thread types and scatter them all over /vp/, and voila, we now have a sewer of a board. Is it all Reddit's fault? No, Reddit's always been here, even before Gen VI. It's partially the fault of people on /vp/ who complain about this shit and give the threads attention. If you just leave them alone, they'll go away and quit the special snowflaking.
