I for one think that Kalos dex only (or rather, restricting pokemon usage to any small niche) makes for an interesting meta. Basically, VGC 14' meta will be very, very different from say, smogon doubles, and not just because of fan-rules like sleep clause and so on, but rather because of what pokemon are and aren't viable. For example, Technician hitmontop was a big deal in VGC 13 and regular doubles formats, but being unavailable in 14 means that players will have to use another Fake Out user, or something that can otherwise fill it's niche.

It's not all bad.

Which effectively only stops hacked IV'd moveset, tutor, eggmoved mons from previous gens from coming in.

But still allows hacked IV dittos / the omniparents with appropriate eggmoves to come in an breed superior kalos-mons.

Gastrodon is banned because of stormdrain. In VGC, they only play doubles format. Why does this matter? Two pokemon, Stall Gastrodon w/Storm Drain and any other pokemon that knows surf. Constantly hit all pokemon and raise the SpAtk stat of your Gastrodon, making it a tank.

Nothing is banned aside from major legends in VGC, not even Dark Void this time.

This year there are special rules banning every mon that isn't in the Kalos dex, and by Kalos dex I mean that fuckuge dex you have to complete for the egg charm, not the gen6 one. If you don't believe play the special format right now with a pentagon non Kalos-mon.

Don't you realize they did the same fucking thing with the beginning of BW? It's to pander XY stuff, they're even letting you play with non gen6 mons that are in the dex. The ban will be removed next year.
