Marill suffered because he was difficult to get. Had he been common it would have been better.

In fact the whole spread and Availability of Gen 2 pokemon made them suffer. Not showcased enough.

Zoroark suffered with this in Gen 4 in his attempts to be the new Lucario, W/B2's damage control somewhat helped.

Final starter evos always look like fucking shit though.
Middle stage is always the best looking when it comes to starters.
Looking more like a middle evo isn't a bad thing.

Combusken and Croconaw both look better than their evos.
Combusken actually looks like a battle chicken instead of a fucking drag queen like blaziken.
And Croconaw has a theme, unlike Feraligatr who is just a fucking alligator.

Emboar and Pignite are both awful shit, but at least pignite is slightly less stinky shit.

Same goes for Quilladin and Chesnaught. Chesnaught has the body of a fucking exeggutor.
