How are you coming to that conclusion? The Wii U was a flop from the gate and hasn't really pulled it together, while the PS4 and the Xbone are vastly outselling it already, even with the gap of, what, two or three years? It makes sense for Nintendo to be trying to rebuild their home console presence, and a new console, marketed to be clearly different from the Wiis, with a new Pokémon game as one of the console-sellers, might be exactly what they'd need to do it.

The console thing might be true... but the Pokemon Plus/Minus thing would still be in its early planning stages. Even if NO ES FAKE, there's a good chance that few of the rumored changes actually make it to the final product.

You're exactly right. Nintendo shot themselves in the foot for the long run when they released the different DSs. Between the Lite and the i, people grew weary of the practice, and the 3DS initially suffered sales loss because people thought it was just another slightly different DS instead of a new thing altogether.
The same situation happened with the Wii U. The marketing was absolutely minimal, and most of it was focused entirely on the controller. It came off sounding like a Wii with a touchscreen slapped on, and consumers (read: parents) weren't buying into it, especially when little Timmy and baby Lisa were already perfectly happy playing Angry Birds on their iPads. It was just a really awful marketing job, starting from the DSs. They really fucked it up.

All they'd need to do to fix it, though, is to release a console that was radically different from the Wiis with either a more traditional controller, or a streamlining of the Wii U's controller concept. I'm hoping for the former, but the latter seems more likely. We'll see.

Okay, uh, I actually looked at the Plus/Minus rumors linked in the OP... and they don't seem as far-fetched as I remembered, save maybe the battle overhaul (how the fuck would that even work?) and the starters having little-to-no synergy. It's obvious that Game Freak is planning SOMETHING for the near future. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if we start getting solid confirmations on the consoles as early as E3 at this point... not that I expect to see that, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Besides, were both batches of leaks true, we won't see this next-gen console (and therefore Gen VII) before 2018, or something like that. This is on the first hand too long (5 years for a new generation? Considering there are only 70 freakin' 'mons in the VI? Bullshit...) and just doesn't sound probable to me. But, if these leaks were true, they talk about "next four to five years"... that's A LOT, isn't it?

And who gave playeressence these leaks? It can easily be the same guy that came up with the idea of Plus and Minus in the first place...

Besides, giving that much detail on starters already would give it off. Even Pokebeach's leaks didn't have as much detail as that about anything. Unless you were a major developer risking your job that hard for some reason for some incomplete information ready to be fired because you're working with like 5 other people at best, it's dumb to think that would ever be how a leak is presented, whereas Mage's stuff was from the perspective of a playtester who got a section of the game to fuck and test around with a few Pokemon he could see.

Except they need to fix the WiiU, not make a new console. They lose out on all the money spent on WiiU, have to put a ton more into R&D and parts for a new console (and they were barely breaking even on WiiU as it is), plus no one would want to buy a new Nintendo console after seeing how quickly they dropped the WiiU.

(Lyssandre and Cyrus) Or they take control of the most powerful pokemon (Every game minus Rocket and Coliseum if you don't count the beasts) and try to destroy all. What makes a military? Ideals? (theme of gen 5) A idealistic sociopathic leader? (Gen 4) Ok, I give up, we have had precision, we have had terrorism in the games, especially when Plasma froze a city, Galactic almost destroyed Sinnoh, Rocket took over a city, and the two teams from gen 3 almost tore hoenn apart.

That said... Nintendo entered the Chinese market not too long ago. And they're seeing some success there. And they know that, unless they're prepared to suck 1.3 billion dicks as hard as they possibly can, they could lose that success in the blink of an eye.

It's obvious that X and Y were never intended to be anything more than a transitioning point for the series, given how we've had Gen VII hints from Day One. The sense that I'm getting here is that this could be their last chance to make highly informative mistakes before they start kowtowing to their most hated foe. Because while Western and Japanese audiences will bitch and moan about setbacks small and large, China isn't going to be Please Understand-ing shit. They'll just put up bureaucracy and bootlegs and wall Nintendo off from that sweet, sweet emerging Chinese consumer base.

And that would be very, very bad for Nintendo.

(If this really is their strategy, to work out bugs and failed models now before setting the rising sun aside for the Celestial Kingdom, it could also explain why Iwata and others don't seem to be very pressured over this whole Wii U thing, too.)

The former is a bad idea. the peripheral devices are what SHOULD be put into the nintendo console, not what should be removed.

By removing unique peripherals, all nintendo is doing is creating a device that is simply trying to compete performance wise with the other 3. Fix the marketing for the system, and get people working on games that use the peripherals better. You need to carve out a unique niche in the market, not try to compete with similarly big fish.

I mean look at trauma team/trauma center: UTK1. Neither of those games would have been able to be done as effectively on another console at the time they came out, and provided unique experiences no one had thought of before.

first of all, game freak likes to tease the base forms and hold back any hints whatsoever on the final forms - usually until the games have already been released.

secondly, the starters all tended to be 'safer' designs. With broader appeal in mind. Something with multiple sets of limbs like that water starter and some multi-faced florabeast for a grass starter definitely flies in the face of that.
