If the trainers in the anime used the same pokemon real life competitive players do, the show would be incredibly dull, and 30% of the cast would have a talonflame or a rotom-wash. Every episode you see a new trainer with a talonflame or a rotom wash. Fuck, I hate tiers, and I only hate them because it's a sign of how people only use the pokemon that are good and easy to use instead of actually trying to think for themselves they just hop onto smogon, copy and paste the recommended stats and movesets (literal copy and paste for showdown users) and then battle against mirror image teams. Typically these "OU" teams contain uber pokemon like Genesect.
Anything that breaks the norm of what these people are used to, or is considered "unbeatable" gets a ban, like mega kangaskhan (who is beaten with will o wisp) or mega gengar (beaten by several pursuit users).
Fuck smogonfags, and also fuck karenfags because some pokemon like farfetch'd are meant to be useless. it's their whole gimmick. i hate the threads where they try to make every pokemon viable and a thousand anons try to "fix" all the bug types. bugs are typically meant to be early game pokemon, strong early on but later on they are fairly ineffective, to help out new players and show them mechanics for things like evolution.
