In most (if not all) American schools, the answer is 9, because the order of operations taught in public schools is 6/2=3 then 3(1+2)=3(3)=9. This would be the "correct" way to do it for most people. However, if applied under a different set of rules the answer comes out to be 1.
HOWEVER. That is using the "/" symbol as shown above. This question clearly uses the division symbol, making the equation unambiguous. The answer is always 9 in this case.
