X and Y are huge callbacks to gen 1. Between Viridian Forest 2, getting an original starter, Metwo and legendary birds, inclusion of remixed versions of some of the original music at points, and the re-introduction of Gotta Catch 'Em All into the marketing, they were clearly making a play at drawing back fans of the early games that had dropped away for their major revamp of the franchise.

Well, for all this conflict over gen 1 and other gens, you have to admit, it's a good job they did it the way they did. Admit it, if the gen 3 Pokemon were swapped with gen 1, Pokemon would probably be nowhere near as popular as it is now. It's true that each generation more or less encapsulates part of the current social climate (cloning, tradition, extreme weather, etc) but for example most of us could probably construct entire teams out of just gen 1 Pokemon and be happy. I could not say the same about any other gen.

My thoughts exactly. They probably thought a fire/dragon type with mega charizard Ys stats would have been REALLY fucking broken. As it is, the fact that mega-zard only has the one super useful stab in fire blast (air slash isn't too great), and it takes 4x from rocks instead of just 2x like fire/dragon zard, holds it back from being a complete monster. If Zard was just Mega Y and also had access to draco meteor or something this gen, it would have been a monster. It already gets dragon pulse, I believe.

Mega- Y is really good though, even on non-sun teams.

They didn't give Latios 2 mega Evos, but they gave one to both Latios + Latias. Two mega evos for gen 3 legendaries- Mewtwo is the only gen 1 legendary to get a Mega, and they gave him two- so really, both gens got an equivalent amount of legendary mega evolutions.

Obviously some DLC or free update or something to XY is going to give you access to more legendaries, since they have megas planned four latios/latias.

Also, the lack of megas for hitmonchan and hitmonlee is disappointing. Hitmontop is ugly and should be forgotten forever because it is the most annoying piece of shit and it is fucking stupid.

I really really hope a few more pokemon, not just NU trash, get megas. Or hell, even regular evolutions would be nice.

the simipour could stay water/ice, like it's a chilled beverage
the simisear would be fire/rock, like charcoals or using stones to steam
the simisage would be .... hmm not sure ... grass/bug? grass/normal?

It would be the only megastone that had the added effect of working like a everstone (so eevee doesn't evolve)

It would give eevee the base stats EQUAL to an eeveelution

appearance wise, probably a larger form of eevee (since most eevees are male, something a little bulkier than lil eevee, or perhaps something more lean looking like they do for persian or other 4legged evolutions)
