Because he counters a lot of mons due to her speed and it happens to have one of the best abilities in the game. Free Priority Roost and Bravery Bird, really terrifying.

Put it this way, if Talonflame was banned, you would see a lot more of the mons it used to counter, like M-Heracross.

because it got a great ability, great STAB moves, and has access to two boosting moves and a recovery move.

it's offenses are on the weak side, but it really is a small price to pay for keeping most bugs and fighting types permanently in check because of your priority brave bird.

Current metagame forces you to have a specific answer to it at all times. It's obviously not some sort of pokegod, but people have to actually keep that featherbrain in mind when teambuilding.

A guaranteed checkmate against some of your opponents Pokemon is too valuable to pass up. It's sweeping insurance basically, if you fucked up and they're going to sweep your team because of speed you can use something to bypass speed.
