Now note that Mew's entries always refer to it having the genes of all pokemon. Due to Male-Exclusive species a Female Mew with only XX genes (or rather a lack of the Y gene, regardless of what other exotic genetic matter it has) would mean that Mew could not be the common ancestor of any Male-Exclusive mons.
Since they supposedly did find all common genes in it, the specimen that was examined had to have had both X and Y genes. That doesn't mean it's Male in any definition we know of, but it does mean it's not Female.
It's more likely a fifth or sixth gender or some shit though.
