Substitute on Mawile is already really good to make your life easier as something switches out. Then you can just smash with whatever you want. You no longer fear Heatran, among other things.
You can just be nutty and throw it out raw if you are sure they are going to switch, it's worked always for me, but I don't do it much.
It's also good because of how it works with Sucker Punch. Once they see you use it, they'll be scared of not attacking, and that's when Sucker Punch can work better with that hesitation. It's still a mindgame, but it's in your favour. And it's also good when you don't care about Mawile anymore, but you'd rather not have something set up, so you use that and they get smashed with the Focus Punch for testing your Sucker Punch and going for Swords Dance or some shit.
You can say it's bad all you want, it will just not stop you from being wrong.
