What did Gamefreak do and what did they not do well?

ITT: We discuss the things that Gamefreak did correctly, and incorrectly this generation.

Correctly:
>Shiny charm lives on
>Friend Safari replaces original, stupid safari.
>Customizable characters
>Fantastically improved online interactions

Incorrectly:
>Low amount of new Pokemon. Roughly 60 new ones.
>NO SECRET/UNDERGROUND BASES IN XY?
>NO VS. SEEKER
>Ridiculously misled us about being able to ride Pokemon around

Online interaction improved? They fucking removed the happy/sad faces in trade chat, so there's no way to know what the other person wants besides nicknaming and guessing. I'd call that 6 steps backwards

On a better note, I liked how they kept the E4 setup where you can choose who to battle first

Do you see the attached picture? It twisted it in a way that made everyone think that it was a anywhere/anytime deal.

Riding Mamoswine and Rhyhorn was tedious and took the enjoyment out of it.

It would have been more fun if they didn't advertise the riding aspect

>Needlessly tacked on Mechanic of Mega Evolution.
The story would of been exactly the same without even discussing it. Needed to either be expanded on or could of been used to lengthen the endgame.

Most Pokemon games have a short endgame and then have their battle type facilities that you can do. The incentive to do the battle maison is pretty low as compared to something like the Battle frontier which has a badge type system along with variety or the PWT which's incentive comes from battling important trainers from previous games.
>Only allowing Music 1-4 to be chosen for Local battles and Battle Maison battles.
>No Full models for Opposing Trainers other than Team Flare & Lysandre.
>Character personalities.

Correct but Incorrect
>3D transition. Some models look good, some are bad.
>EXP Share. Good for endgame training, problematic for story difficulty.
>Character Customization. Needed feature but they could of had more.
>Amie. Good mechanic, should be expanded on though
>Rebalancing of types and Pokemon stats. Some changes were good, some changes were bad. Could of been better but it was a step in the right direction.

They need to make trading more accessible.

Should be able to bring up the GTS style list and put in the Pokemon you want.

agreed pretty much entirely. i personally don't think the fairy type was all that necessary; giving dragon another weakness to an existing type [steel? knights in legends killing dragons and all of that] and /not/ making ghost the new dragon [steel should still resist it if nothing else] would've been a good idea.

Fairy type's addition was fine I think.

They have a lot of types that really needed to be worked on like Grass and Ice though.

What if Nintendo's gonna put out DLC? There's a boatload of empty space in Southern Kalos. They could simply add more cities and stuff and connect them through Lumiose's train like Kiloude.
