Okay /vp/. what would it take for Machamp to be on equal footing with Conkeldurr? it seems like everybody prefers Conkeldurr in competitive play.

also, which ability is best for champ and conk? (i cant decide which one to use in my team.)

It could really use a few more moves to abuse no guard with. Stone miss and Dynamicmiss are just not enough.

It's not highly suggested, but you could always surprise Ferrothorns and Skarmories with a 100% accuracy Fire Blast. The downfall of this is that you're wasting a moveslot and your nature has to be set to Brave from Adamant.

it used to be a legit tactic back in gen 2 and 3 when machamp didn't have no guard and skarmbliss cores were on every team, people would switch in skarmory and get 2hko'd by a suprise fire blast

Machamp has been brochamp since gen 1. He suffered with the advent of conk but brochamp's no guard is still a nice niche.

Also, champ's sp def is better. An assault vested conkeldurr with unboosted sp def nature will still have less sp def than a neutral sp def natured champ.

He can learn Focus Energy (if you can stall a turn) or get it Baton Passed to him.

He's able to learn Cross Chop and Rock Slide which have an increased critical hit ratio, making them stage two crit chance. Under Focus Energy those moves get boosted to stage four, which is 100% critical chance. He can use Leftovers and Guts with a crit set, allowing him to hit like a bus and not fear burns. Knock Off is still the coverage move of choice.

I agree, Guts champ is also getting more and more viable what with all these status moves while crit champ I've only heard once or twice before

This is is mistaken. However, Machamp with Assault vest will have significantly higher boosts in special defense. This comes in handy when several threats coming from Psychic, Fairy and even Flying types are special moves.

if only GF had the foresight to avoid giving significant SpA stats on Machamp, he would have been loads better. Just taking 10 off from his SpA to his HP or Def would have made him so much better.
