VCG is just as, if not more centralized than any given smogon teir. Sure it's a little more forgiving with home brew teams, but there is a definite meta to it.

It's really not that different from the majority of other hobbies with competitive environments. Fighting games, shooters, poker (card games in general), paintball/airsoft, WoW, LoL/dota, etc... Just to name a few.
Competitive is by no means bad, just means there's an additional layer of enjoyment to be had.

Probably the same reason as yugioh players might complain about their banlists. Sure, there are "other options", but sometimes you're hard pressed to find anyone who will play under a different set of rules. Most folks play using Smogon tiers and Smogon clauses, just like no yugioh tournaments use the "Traditional format" list. This is why I prefer to play randoms online in-game. Can't do shit to dictate my play style.

Bit of a double standard there.
My personal vendetta vs smogon is legendarys ever and the auto 6ivs/event moves thats aren't even feasible in cart. It's bullshit. But it doesn't mean I won't follow their system. Even given those things the rules make sense and are fair. They provide a wealth of I formation and calculations that are very useful.
The real crime is how allergic /vp/ is to information. It's disgusting.

You're damn right there's a definite meta to it. I played my buddy in 4v4 VGC Doubles on Friday and it was literally Smogon OU Gen IV: The Fucking Team. Talonflame, Greninja, Washing Machine, among others!

From what I've heard its not uncommon, I hear some people don't even get to actually battle Chaos and he just auto wins over them because they are under 2000 which he claims means they are not worth his time.

it happens en every community and when it reaches the point it can't get any worse the competitive scene dies.
and we are far from that point but that doesn't mean it should be allowed to get to that point

But yeah, you still get a bunch of hacked legends and there's no real way of knowing what was hacked, and what was gotten by chance.

That's not true. Gen V was heavily centralized, yes, but Gen VI is one of the most diverse metas yet. Mega Evolution and the weather nerf did wonders; there really isn't a true "cookie-cutter" team that's guaranteed to get you to 2000+ without trying. Yeah, Mega Lucario is probably overcentralizing... but then you miss out on the nigh-immortal Mega Venusaur, the awesome power of either Mega Charizards, or the unholy pain trains that are [insert other viable Megas here]. Then you've got your other team mates, the choice to run Defog or Rapid Spin, and so on. I would argue that there's about a dozen or more Pokemon that can claim to run the metagame right now, which, compared to last Generation's five or fewer, is pretty fucking cool. Especially since many of Gen VI's showrunners are mutually exclusive. The game is a free-for-all.

Hmmm. My advice is make a list of pokes you like and play the tier (if that's the style you mean) most of them fit in. Experiment with what you think is good and test (the sim is good for that at least...) after that its basically everything you listed.

You didn't even get the top three correct. And you listed three Pokemon that get used not because they're totally indestructible/destroy everything okay, maybe Genesect does that but because they can do a number of roles moderately well on nearly any team with little to no support. Hell, if the most-used 'mons are the ones that have the most uses, then that's the surest sign I can think of that proves that the meta is diverse.
By the way, Rotom-W "only" saw 24% usage, and was the most used Pokemon overall. Talonflame, the second most commonly used Pokemon, showed up on a whopping 16.67% of all teams. And so on. Compare that to GenV, where the most-used Pokemon were things like Politoed whose inclusion on a team pretty much decided which playstyle you were using. Tyranitar not so much, there aren't that many things that abused sand that didn't get banned...
