In the beginning, we all agreed that Charizard was a shit. A shitty, overhyped pointless fire-type with bad stats, bad typing and an average movepool, who was wrongly glorified by genwunners.

But can we now agree that Charizard is an alright guy thanks to its megas? Or are you guys going to continue to let genwunners ruin Pokemon for you?

Charizard X/Y are two of the few mega evolutions that I think were actually well designed overall. It was given to an underpowered yet three stage Pokemon and actually succeeded at buffing it to good levels.

I don't think it's less powerful, it's just a different niche. I use Y as an opener due to the massive fucking boost it gets from the sun. At least X can take a hit or some rocks, though.

Sure, it ain't much compared to Venusaur and Charizard. But it sure as hell is better than regular Blastoise. Especially with the new moves it got and that Mega Launcher ability.

Zard is great cause he no longer suffers as much from SR, which was something that severely crippled him in gen 4&5.
Megavolutions fixed its stat spread and allowed it to be viable in competition.
And with the introduction of fairies, it stands up even more.
It walls fairies except for Belly Azumarill, shits on prominent steel types, and has a wide coverage. Both can sweep very well, and contain decent synergy in teams.
Also, water types aren't so effective against them now either. Y's Drought fucks up water types, and allows 1turn solarbeam after mega'ing, Zard X is now neutral.
Only real threats are mons with higher base speed than 100 running Stone Edge(Y)/EQ(X), or are bulky enough to take a hit or two.

Asides from Blastoise, Banette somewhat benefited from its mega.
It's just a bit hard to set up.
Kind of sad that Manetric's HA was Minus, and not intimidate.

Also, Aggron is still waiting on bank.

The next time I run a damage calc I'll just give +6 to whatever helps prove my argument. Stat boosts are generally not considered in damage calcs because you can never guarantee that you'll get them.

It's two completely different Pokémon that only get a big boost in viability because the opponent can't tell the difference until they've already gotten an attack in. If that's the kind of tactics you have to stoop to to make Charizard viable, it still deserves hatred.
